When should I use my Air Conditioning?
Many modern vehicles now come with an Air Conditioning and Climate control system. These systems are designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle, however they require regular maintenance to ensure they continue to work safely and efficiently.
Many drivers believe that their air conditioning is solely to cool them during the warm
summer months and therefore the system lies dormant for long periods of time. This is the
not the case, as your air conditioning system is equally as effective in the cold winter
months to heat your vehicle as it is in the Summer. In fact continuous use actually helps to
keep your air conditioning working more efficiently, maintaining a comfortable temperature
for you and your passengers, while filtering out pollen and dust, minimising condensation
and helps prevent the build-up of mould and microbes inside the micro-filter. It also stops
seals from becoming brittle, which can cause the refrigerant to leak.
When the air conditioning system in your vehicle is left unused for a period of time unpleasant and sometimes, unhealthy odours can occur, encouraging the onset of sore throats and allergic reactions. This is due to the condensation in your system combining with the heat from the vehicle engine to create an environment where bacteria & fungi can grow. |

Why should I have my Air Conditioning System Serviced?
Regular servicing of your Air Conditioning not only helps to prevent illness & allergies, it
also ensures your vehicle runs more efficiently and saves you money.
Overtime your system will leak refrigerant gas. This gas actually cools the air that enters
the vehicle & circulates the oil, which lubricates the compressor; therefore it is an
essential part of the system and requires to be regularly refilled.
When the gas used within the air conditioning system escapes it causes the air conditioning
to run inefficiently, making the compressor work harder and increasing your overall fuel
consumption.
To keep your system operating at peak efficiency and avoid musty smells, the micro-filters
should be maintained at regular intervals and the correct level of refrigerant gas should be
checked and replaced.
Things to Watch Out for:
If you notice any of the following symptoms then you need to get your Air Con System Serviced.
- If there are musty odours when you first switch on the engine.
- If there are musty odours when you adjust your air conditioning or temperature settings.
- If your air-conditioning takes too long to reach the temperature you want or if it will not reach it at all!
